“Reared Against the Sky; The Boys of 1984” is a true story about my high school football coach who was a first time, head coach that used the dangerous practice of rationing water while soaring to a championship. However, the journey had consequences as one of my teammates dropped face first onto the practice field and almost succumbed to the effects of heat stroke. While open criticism ensued about my coach’s disciplinary techniques and coaching style, no one can deny his ability for taking mediocre kids from the mountains and turning them into champions. Fast forward, 30+ years and this coach has become one of the most winningest high school football coaches in California history. My story is not only a tribute to this special coach but to my teammates; the boys of 1984
